On January 19, 2011 from 12:30-2:00PM, the Graduate and Professional Student Senate organized the first in a series of exchanges between graduate students in different schools.  Over sixty-five graduate students in the School of Architecture and the School of Policy, Planning and Development convened in the Ballroom Center of the Radisson Hotel to enjoy a pizza lunch and participate in a workshop led by artist and urban planner, James Rojas.  Students were introduced to a technique of hands-on urban planning by using found items to design a three-dimensional map of Los Angeles in the year 2050.  Working first individually and then as a group, students from Architecture and SPPD had the rare opportunity to work together and discuss issues relevant to both fields, such as sustainable transportation and resource distribution.  The afternoon came to a grand finale with insightful remarks regarding future collaborations between the two schools by the Dean of the School of Architecture, Qingyun Ma.
