The end of the year is filled with food. Halloween candy, Thanksgiving turkey and
Christmas cake are only the standard festive food association. How are you expected to
stay fit and healthy when the nation embarks on a six-week eating frenzy and
celebration?
I know this is hard, but here’s the key: portion control.
There’s no need to reject your grandmother’s home cooked pumpkin pie or resist the urge
to drink eggnog by the fire. What’s important here is monitoring how much of these
seasonal treats you consume and balancing that with your physical activity level. Too
many people try to shed the pounds they gained over the holidays. Instead of putting in
twice the effort after the damage, why not try preventative measures like working out
during the holidays?
Try not to make excuses like “well, it’s the holidays” or “everyone else is still eating” to
food binge. It’s a matter of discipline and knowing when to say enough is enough.
Instead of eating three ginger bread cookies and washing it down with a pumpkin latte,
how about having one and drinking water?
Nevertheless, it’s a challenge that visits us every year. To help you out though, here are a
few tips from Health.com on eight holiday treats that are tasty and under 80 calories.
- Mulled wine
- Red velvet mini cupcake
- Lindt milk chocolate bar
- Two peppermint malted milk balls
- Gingerbread cookie
- Three pieces of peanut brittle
- Fig truffle
Good luck!
