On Saturday, February 4th, the Trojan Parliamentary Debate Club attended its second ever tournament at Loyola Marymount University. Against a strong field of debaters, including people who had recently returned from competing at the world championships, USC made an impressive showing. The team of Dafne Gokcen and Sulagna Misra (both first year Master’s students) made it into the final round and Dafne Gokcen took home the prize for third best speaker at the tournament.
The Trojan Parliamentary Debate Club is new this semester and most of the members have very little or no debate experience. Dafne Gokcen founded the club and has been training new debaters at weekly meetings. The club attended its first tournament ever the weekend of January 20-22 at Stanford University. The club’s success at LMU is hopefully the start of what will be a very successful future for the fledgling group!
